Boston Children's Museum

The 'A-Ha' moment, when something clicks, when a child becomes so focused and engaged that they start making lasting connections.

“As a non-profit that runs very lean, we have a very small margin for error, we need to work with people who are highly reliable and responsive, but who clearly have a state-of-the-art skill set in web design/development. Every dollar counts for us, and creativity is an important equalizer. MassMonopoly brought all this to the table in their work for Boston Children’s Museum. We have no hesitancy recommending them.”

THE STORY

100 years educating children

As the Boston Children’s Museum approached its 100-year mark, it sought to bring its web presence and branding back in line with its singular mission: to use play as a tool to spark the inherent creativity, curiosity, and imagination of children.

Our goal was to capture those “A-Ha” moments, reshape their visual branding, and change the perception of what the Boston Children’s Museum could be.

Delivering “Ah-Ha” moments

Boston Children’s Museum asked us to refresh their web presence — to create something clear, easy to read and use, and allowed for multiple messaging capabilities for real-time updates to their visitors. We created space throughout the site and utilize mobile-first menu systems and bright focused headlines to capture attention and guide users through the site. We continued to build upon that interest through vibrant, large, rich imagery bringing the site visitors closer to the museum experiecne.

Celebrating a Century

We also built an interactive historical timeline to commemorate their 100 year anniversary. The experience pulled images from their library dating all the way back to the early days of the museum.

Mobile Planning Made Easy & Convenient

We created better mobile views, navigation, and prioritized content, focusing attention on what museum patrons – busy moms and dads – need to see on their phones when on the go and planning their visit. This refreshed design needed to work across many devices and visitor pathways putting the right tools at the user’s fingertips at the right time.

PLAY MATTERS

The Power of Play

The Power of Play is based on the science of brain development. What’s viewed in the adult world as ‘just fun’, play, is actually a vital activity children use to learn about and come to understand the world around them.

The Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest children’s museum in the U.S. and has been engaging children in joyful discovery experiences that instill an appreciation of our world, develop foundational skills, and spark a lifelong love of learning for over 100 years.

The museum sets the bar for children’s museums globally and continues to blaze an innovative trail in the STEAM education of children.

Learning Through Hands-on Engagement & Experience

Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest, and one of the most influential children’s museums in the world. Their site is a colorful, playful celebration of children and the marriage of learning and play. Through huge vibrant imagery and bold succinct headlines, we capture a user’s attention and start them down a learning path right away. From your mobile, it’s never been easier to plan your visit, find parking details and even buy your tickets. When was your last visit?
